Are Siamese Cats Friendly?

How social are they?

Extremely. Siamese cats want to be involved in everything you do. They follow you from room to room, "talk" to you constantly, and often choose one person to bond with most intensely. Their attachment is genuine and deep; many Siamese owners describe the relationship as more dog-like than cat-like. They're affectionate, lap-seeking, and will sleep on you, next to you, or as close to you as they can manage. This level of social need is the breed's greatest strength and its biggest challenge.

Why are they so loud?

Siamese cats have a distinctive, loud, low-pitched voice that they use constantly. They meow when they want food, when they want attention, when they're bored, when they're happy, and sometimes apparently just because they can. It's a breed trait, not a behavioral problem, and it won't be trained out of them. If you want a quiet cat, a Siamese is not the right choice. If you enjoy having conversations with your cat, you'll never find a better partner.

Can they be left alone?

Not well. Siamese cats are prone to separation anxiety when left alone for long periods. They may become destructive, overly vocal, or develop stress-related behaviors like over-grooming. They do much better in homes where someone is present for most of the day, or in pairs (two Siamese cats will keep each other company and entertain each other). If you work long hours away from home and don't have another pet, a less socially dependent breed might be a better fit.

Are they good with kids and other pets?

Generally yes. Siamese cats are playful and energetic enough to enjoy interactions with children, and their social nature extends to other cats and sometimes dogs. They can be territorial with unfamiliar cats initially, but proper introductions usually resolve this. Their intelligence and curiosity make them engaging companions for families, and they thrive in busy households where there's always something happening.
